Iowa 80

In Rick Zollo's Friday Night At Iowa 80, overworked truck drivers in search of a vital break from the boring reality of traveling many neverending miles is on full display at a rest village off Interstate 80 outside the tiny town of Walcott. Never before has it been such a relief for a restraunt customer to grab a delicious meal after spending extended hours on the nation's wide open road, sometimes seeing nothing but cars in front and trees to the left and right. Also, it is not unlikely to find a middle aged man reliving his childhood dreams in the very entertaining arcade because of how good it feels to be doing anything but transporting goods across a number of states. For the 22 year veteran driver Gordy, sitting at the Iowa 80 booth looking for food and pointy chinned Morris, trying to win a stuffed animal for his lady, the adversity that they face in their careers forces them to really do their best to stay sane when its time to pull over.
At the restraunt, the overwhelmed Gordy described how chaotic his obligations were to General Motors, having to constantly use his pain of a logbook which would always lead to cheating by the test takers. He went on to discuss how demanding the tasks at hand were for a dedicated union man like himself to his "fly by night" company. At the classic 90's styled arcade, Morris talks about how he has only been home for "three and a half hours in the past four months". His continous moving around from place to place has forced him away from his top priority, his family. He came up north to the midwest all the way from Lafayette, Louisiana. Many sacrifices are made to get the well earned pay check at the end of the very long day.
